Branko Šavija is universitair hoofddocent in de groep Materials and Environment. Hij studeerde bouwkunde aan de faculteit Civiele Techniek in Belgrado, Servië, waar hij in 2009 afstudeerde. Zijn PhD aan de TU Delft richtte zich op het testen en modelleren van chloride-indringing in gescheurd beton. Zijn proefschrift werd geselecteerd als beste proefschrift gefinancierd door de Nederlandse Technologie Stichting (STW), en hij werd uitgeroepen tot "Simon Stevin Gezel" in 2015. Tussen 2014-2017 was hij postdoctoraal onderzoeker in dezelfde groep, en werkte hij aan de ontwikkeling van slim beton: zelfhelend beton dat in staat is scheuren te "genezen" na beschadiging, en beton dat micro-ingekapselde faseveranderingsmaterialen (PCM's) bevat die kunnen helpen temperatuurgeïnduceerde scheurvorming onder controle te houden. Na gewerkt te hebben als consultant bij TNO (2017-2018), keerde hij in 2018 terug naar de Universiteit. Zijn huidige onderzoeksinteresses omvatten multi-scale mechanica van cementgebonden materialen en additieve productie van cementgebonden composieten.
Voor zijn werk ontving hij in 2020 een Gustavo Colonnetti-medaille van RILEM (The International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures). Hij kreeg ook een ERC Starting Grant in 2021 voor het project "Auxetic cementitious composites by 3D printing (ACC-3D)".

Gustavo Colonnetti
